Can an overdose of vitamins?
I read an article in Consumer Reports says going above their RDA of vitamins and minerals can be linked to specific health issues. I take a vitamin supplement rather high, with more than 1000% of my vitamins B and often more 200% of vitamins and minerals. Could this be bad for my digestive tract, or I just shit excess vitamins and minerals?
Yes, I am totally agree with that article. . . you can “overdose” of vitamins, particularly fat soluble ones like E, D and A (in a non-carotene). Even have shown that Vit too. C (a water-soluble vitamins) can cause cancer. Barring a major shortcoming, established by medical evidence, not see why we would want to spend all that money on mega-vitamins. Your body only needs a small amount of each vitamin and mineral, and taking 1000% more than the order daily is required to tax your liver, kidneys and other organs (rather than the digestive tract), not to mention your bank account. It’s much better to eat a diet variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, etc, because the body absorbs vitamins and minerals from food better than supplements. In addition, you can see support other components in the (food rich in fiber, ie proteins, carbohydrates) in appropriate quantities to facilitate digestion and absorption of vitamins and minerals. It is by far the healthiest. . . and smarter. . . way forward.
